Abstract

Existing Political Corporate Social Responsibility (PCSR) studies overemphasize PCSR conducted globally by multinational corporations (MNCs). There is limited research exploring the relationship between PCSR and sustainability. We examine PCSR initiatives conducted by large local firms in the Chinese manufacturing industry using the institutional theory lens. We investigate the reason why large domestic private enterprises in China are motivated to engage in PCSR, how it is practiced, and how PCSR enhance their sustainability performance.
