Abstract
The use of impedance spectroscopy (IS) for remote analysis of steel microstructures is described. IS uses the electromagnetic properties (EM) of steel to allow information on phase balance and distribution to be determined. The EM approach allows the electromagnetic sensors to be used online during steel processing, as the electromagnetic field acts at a distance and requires no contact with material being analyzed. The EM technique can also be used above the Curie point, that allow phase transformation in low carbon steels to be monitored online.
