    Abstract

This paper presents studies to rank generators in power systems based on the risk of subsynchronous resonance (SSR) in the network. The approach developed in the paper uses frequency scan an existing established method to study SSR to identify the generators that are at the risk of experiencing high mechanical torques due to SSR. The method is able to indicate the area and the generators in the test network at the highest risk of SSR. A 16 machine, 68 bus IEEE test network is used as a test system. It is shown that developed index enables identification and ranking of generators at the risk of SSR. © 2013 IEEE.
