    Abstract

The method involves training standardisation means to perform standardisation, inputting an input pattern to said standardisation means and outputting a standardised pattern from said standardisation means. A plurality of reference patterns are mapped into a space of reduced dimensionally, preferably between one and five. Each pattern is of a type corresponding to a reference pattern, and said pattern is mapped to space of reduced dimensionally equal to the dimensionally of the reference patterns. A standardising transformation is performed on the reduced dimensionally training patterns so as to substantially map said training patterns onto the reduced dimensionally reference patterns.ADVANTAGE - Eliminates need for recalibration and provides reliable gas recognition.
