    Abstract

This paper explores the concept of ???intermediate space??? as a method of understanding the facilitating role of learning spaces in technology enhanced approaches to higher education. It can be argued that understanding the changing nature of educational spaces promotes learner interactions, connectivity, community and selforganisation. Additionally, a deeper understanding of such spaces enables the educator to consider how learning environments can be constructed and developed. At the Technische Universitaet Darmstadt, an intermediate space has been realised in the ComputerStudienWerkstatt (Computer Study Lab) of the Institute of General andVocational Pedagogy. The focus of this paper is to describe the concept of this realisation of intermediate space as a relevant model for a student oriented integration of new media in education.
