International Comparison of National Spatial Planning Frameworks

Research output: Preprint/Working paperDiscussion paper

Abstract

This research complements the UK2070’s existing work on national planning systems with further case study examples by putting forward a concise study of an international comparison of national spatial planning frameworks (NSPFs) and the best examples of spatial planning instruments (SPIs) at the national level to redress city and regional economic inequalities. This study demonstrates not only the best practices around the world to acknowledge and confront the spatial expression of government policies and the wide-ranging disparities between sub-national regions, but also contributes to the public discussion that an immediate intervention at the national scale is needed to reform and improve regional policy in the UK.
