Intersectionality in work and employment

Research output: Chapter in Book/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

How can intersectionality support the advancement of theoretical and empirical discussions in the field of work and employment? In this chapter, I discuss the use and usefulness of intersectionality to advance research work that focuses on inequalities in work and employment. The chapter identifies key themes and considerations to support a thematic and methodological agenda that uses intersectionality to interrogate disadvantage and privilege so that we gain a better understanding of how multiple social identities interplay with positionalities, leading to inequalities in work and employment. The chapter shows how intersectionality can support scholars in the field to gain a more insightful theoretical understanding of inequalities and facilitate the epistemological framing and analytical angle to empirically interrogate these inequalities at micro-individual, meso-organizational, and macro-contextual levels.
