Introduction: Interpreting governance, high politics, and public policy

Research output: Chapter in Book/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Bevir and Rhodes have brought interpretivism to the mainstream of British political science. Their contribution has been to develop highly innovative depictions of public administration and policymaking and to challenge the dominant conceptual frameworks of the discipline. They have made many contributions to governance studies; prompting scholars to take theory more seriously, utilising narratives of governance as a new mode of scientific explanation, and showing the significance of ethnomethodology in understanding political activity. Various aspects of this analytical framework have been contested; these are debated in this book, along with the future of interpretivist political science.
