    Abstract

    Despite a burgeoning literature on ionic liquids, the central questions of their liquid structures and the interactions governing them are scarcely examined. This overview considers the key neutron scattering data, supported by calculations, that have provided us with our first real picture of the fluid state of ionic liquids, and also describes the effects of a range of solutes on that structure.
