    Abstract

The study reports one part of a 3-year BIOMED 1 project financed by the European community. The objective was to propose a strategy to combat AIDS that would be acceptable to all the European countries, and this has involved carrying out a survey of the measures taken by each of the countries participating in the project (14 states, including 7 from Western Europe and 7 from Eastern Europe). A review of these legislative issues reveals predictable discrepancies in the measures adopted, with varying degrees of repressiveness and respect for the ethical principles thas are the foundation of our medical systems.
