Abstract
This article explores the state-of-the-art regarding the controversial use of machine translation for foreign language instruction. In particular we focus on the potential and limitations that this practice can provide from the pedagogical point of view. We also outline some ideas for its implementation in the foreign language class. The idea is to promote the modern language students’ vocational training and to complement their linguistic practice in the human language technologies framework.
