Abstract
Just one year after enlargement, the European Agency for the Management of Operational Cooperation at the External Borders started work on May 1, 2005. The entry of 10 new Member States into the Union was also symbolised by the choice of the Polish capital Warsaw as the Agency's headquarters. The Agency manager (Ilkka Laitinien from Finland) and his assistant (Gil Arias Fernandez from Spain) were appointed by the Executive Board on May 25, 2005 in Warsaw. In this article, you will find an overview of the key stages in this important process drawn up by the European Union.
