Large deformations of cylindrical tubes conveying a viscous flow

    Abstract

    The problem of flow through collapsible tubes has been studied considerably. In this paper, the pre-buckling deformation, i.e. the case of axisymmetric deformations is examined as well as the influence of bending stiffness, the effects of wall shear stress and axial pre-stretch of the tube. Also, the system's structural is analyzed and the critical load parameters for which the axisymmetric pre-buckling deformation becomes unstable are investigated. The results of the computations for non-axisymmetrically buckled tube are presented. The interaction between fluid and solid mechanics is explained in detail and the results of parameters studies to investigate the tube's deformation in a variety of experimental situations are shown.
