Abstract

Legal education in English law has traditionally focused on law as a vocational and practical subject, with Universities and legal history playing a less prominent role until the twentieth century. Legal history is not a compulsory subject of its own within English and Welsh law Faculties. At the same time, the common law tradition practiced in England tends to engage students with historical legal sources as continuing to be relevant to modern law, although perhaps not always understood in their historical context.
