    Abstract

    Fitness-for-service of equipment and components containing defects is generally assessed using procedures such as BS 7910 [1], API 579 [2] and R6 [3].There is currently little detailed advice in these procedures on the effects of biaxial and triaxial loading on fracture.This poster shows some theoretical bounding solutions of the plastic limit load for centre cracked plates under a variety of biaxial loading ratios andcompares the estimates with those found by numerical methods using finite element (FE) analysis using Abaqus CAE modelling software [4].
