Abstract
The location of adsorbed CH4 in zeolite-1 is of current interest. However, CH4 is very difficult to 'see' by x-ray diffraction due to the weak scattering of x-rays by elements of low at. no. Xenon can be used to model CH4 as the 2 species are almost the same size and Xe scatters x-rays much more strongly than does CH4. Therefore, powder diffraction data were collected for Xe-loaded dehydrated zeolite-1. There is evidence that Xe was detected from the powder diffraction data. Xenon was found on 1 site from the 1/3 atm. partial pressure data and on 2 sites from the 2/3 atm. partial pressure dataset data. [on SciFinder(R)]
