    Abstract

Primary magnetizations are preserved in continental red beds of the Elliot Formation (Karoo Basin).

•Global palaeopole and magnetostratigraphic correlations support a Late Triassic-Early Jurassic age.

•An age range between ~214 – 213 Ma and ~195 - 190 Ma is estimated for the Elliot Formation.
