Abstract
At Undergraduate level, economics has the lowest proportion of students from less affluent backgrounds of all degree subjects. There is also a high drop out rate. economics students remain more likely to be male, be strong in maths and are more likely to attend a selective or independent school. The article considers how we might change this, from curriculum design to strategies to widen diversity and participation at A level and in Higher Education.
