    Abstract

This is an instruction manual which outlines in detail the processes and workflows developed as part of the Carcanet Press Email Preservation Project (the project reports are also available in eScholar, ID numbers 165096 and 226625). Its context is specific to The University of Manchester Library and to the email archive of Carcanet Press, which is created in the form of Microsoft PST files and arranged by accession. However, elements of the process may be straightforwardly adapted to deal with email generated in different formats and in other contexts. Currently, many of the processes are quite manual in nature and involve using command-line tools and working in raw XML. It is hoped that in future more automation can be introduced to streamline the work.
