Manufacturing recession? BHP and the recession in Wollongong

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

Adopts a locality perspective to reveal important insights into the interweaving restructuring processes of one particular large company, the Australian steel industry overall and the steel city of Wollongong, Australia. A genealogical perspective assists in tracing why the steel industry in Wollongong was forced to rapidly restructure in a particular way. Especially important roles are attributed to the role of migrant labour, local industrial relations practices, local labour market dominance and the ability of the company to manipulate the state. -from Author
