    Abstract

Theoretical and experimental studies are carried out on cross correlation techniques using electrical capacitance sensors applied to non-intrusive restrictive velocity and mass flow rate measurement of cyclone separator. The mass flow rate is determined from two parameters, namely the solids velocity and the volumetric concentration. The former is measured by cross-correlating the capacitance fluctuations caused by the conveyed solids, and the latter by the image reconstruction method. The two parameters are then combined to give the solids mass-flow rate. The method is not affected by the opacity of the apparatus. In addition, the measurements are taken non-intrusively and rapidly (-200 frames per second) with makes online analysis possible. The feasibility and reliability of this measuring method are verified by the experimental results.
