    Abstract

A mass spectrometer comprising means for directing a stream of analyte species from a sample to an energy resolving detector, the analyte species traveling at a known speed, wherein the energy resolving detector is arranged to measure the kinetic energy of the species, thereby allowing the masses of the species to be detd.
