Abstract
The result of a conference held at the University of Cambridge in September 1992, this book aims to provide an up-to-date review of current knowledge of Quaternary river behaviour from contrasting tectonic, climatic and cultural settings within the Mediterranean region. It also illustrates the uses of different methodologies for studying past river environments - across a variety of time and space scales - and highlights many of the problems asociated with establishing age control and identifying causality in alluvial sequences. The twenty four individually authored papers have been organised into three parts as follows: the impact of Quaternary tectonic activity on river behaviour; archaeology and human-river environment interactions; and geochronology, correlation and controls of Quaternary river erosion and sedimentation. -H.R.Goode
