Abstract

The European Union – in common with the rest of the world - faces a future of increasing energy and electricity demand. Domestic, industrial and commercial customers all rightfully expect safe and secure supplies of affordable energy to meet this demand. Furthermore, there is now heightened awareness of the environmental implications of energy production, and these must also be taken into account within the overall context of sustainability.
