Abstract
A metabolic model was constructed in matrixformalism for hydrogen production by the purple non-sulfurbacteria Rhodobacter sphaeroides involving 183 reactions and153 metabolites. Assuming pseudo-steady state, mass balanceswere performed for each metabolite and the resultingequations were solved using optimization. The objectivefunction was the maximization of the hydrogen production. The comparison of the experimental and computational resultsindicated the importance of light in hydrogen production.
