Microextraction device for trace volatiles.

    Research output: Patent

    Abstract

Solid phase microextn. (SPME) device for detecting trace volatile compds. e.g. produced by fungal decay of construction timber, has a sampling probe typically comprising a housing and a bored barrel to receive an SPME device in which a coated fiber is guided within a needle sheath into the barrel and a pump draws a fluid sample over the fiber within the bore of the barrel. A motor can advance and retract the SPME device and its fiber for capture of volatile compds. in the test sample and the captured volatiles can then be released for anal. e.g. by an array of gas analyzers.
