Abstract
A re-examination of Mishlei/Proverbs, based on a reassessment of the figure of Lady Wisdom; previous research on women and wisdom in biblical traditions is used to challenge widely accepted understandings of Proverbs as a misogynistic and male-authored work. Metaphors taken from textile production, reflecting themes that appear in Proverbs itself, are used to suggest a new approach to the problem of the books' formation and authorship, and a new structure for the book is proposed.
