    Abstract

Stick-slip vibrations present at the bottom hole assembly(BHA) of a generic oilwell drillstring subject todry friction are studied. Different nonlinear differentialequations-based models of a drillstring are analyzed. Thedrillstring models presented are oriented to avoid simulationproblems due to the discontinuities originated bythe presence of dry friction. The influence of differentdrilling parameters on the stick-slip behaviour are studiedand relations between them are established to brieflystate some control methodologies for drilling operation.
