    Abstract

This paper details the use of mood monitoring techniques combined with a schedule designed to monitor pro-dromes of psychosis/bipolar disorders as a means of illness education. The authors work within a low secure rehabilitation unit based at Tameside General Hospital. The HDU is one of seven in the north west designed specifically to provide rehabilitation for clients with enduring mental illnesses. Teaching patients how to live independently is paramount for the possible eventual discharge into less secure, less supportive accommodation. Teaching Eric how to differentiate between normal moods and an episode of illness is a step in this direction.
