Abstract

In this article, Sam Hind looks at the "seamless autonomy" of a Nissan autonomous vehicle project, in which decision-making is delegated to human workers called "mobility managers". Rather than envisioning a fully autonomous future, I contend that the Seamless Autonomous Mobility (SAM) project aims to normalize remote interventions that are categorically distinct from other types of AI-related "microwork".
