Needs of Families of Children with Disabilities in Gaza-Palestine

Abstract

This study aimed to identify family needs of children with disabilities in North Gaza and its relationship with some variables. The descriptive analytical method was used in this study. Sample consisted of (166) parents; (68) fathers, and (98) mothers. A 26-items questionnaire developed by (Saratawi & Shakhsi, 1998) was used to measure the needs of families. The results of this study indicated that fathers and mothers agreed on the rank of needs according to their importance: financial support, knowledge, community support, and finally social support, with relative mass of total degree of needs (76.83%). Also, significant difference in needs due to father or mother toward mother. Also, significant difference in needs due to gender of child towards females. Results indicated significant difference in needs due to type of disability towards mental disability. Finally, significant difference in needs due to age of children towards (less than 9 years).
