This paper provides a background briefing for the WUF7 networking event on New formal housing policies: building just cities? It starts by presenting the objectives of the event. It
then summarizes the evolution of the main housing policies implemented in many countries in the global South during the last decades. This is complemented by insightful examples provided by panel participants of the event for the cases of Brazil, Colombia and South Africa.
