Abstract

Abstract: Small and large sized enterprises are facing the same challenges in integrating their business processes and designing their business model taking into account the disrupting elements of Web2.0. Most aspects of these strategies are particularly favourable to large corporations featuring large IT infrastructure, IT competences and budget unmatched by SMEs. Nonetheless a consistent share SMEs is actively trying to fill this knowledge gap and innovate also through Web 2.0 technologies. In order to explain this trend, the research focuses on the contextualisation of the stylised facts - SMEs have scarce resources and no or little knowledge on how to learn to incorporate new technologies as Web 2.0 in their business model - and relates these to the underlying evolutionary dynamics in order to draw a picture of the immediate and future innovation strategies involving the uptake of Web 2.0 technologies by SMEs
