    Abstract

There is increasing prevalence of eye disorders, particularly in the elderly. Many of these are caused by oxidative stress. Four non-carotenoid nutraceuticals, pycnogenol, docosahexaenoic acid, alpha lipoic acid and bilberry, have been evaluated for possible benefits in diseases such as age related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, dry eye syndrome and retinitis pigmentosa, and for improvement of night vision.
