Objective Measurement of Cough

Research output: Contribution to journalReview articlepeer-review

Abstract

The objective measurement of cough has changed the standards by which cough therapies are evaluated. Consequently, there has been a significant increase in the number of cough monitoring systems in development in recent years. Most systems utilise acoustic parameters to detect and quantify cough events and those currently used in clinical trials are semi-automated. Accurate fully automated systems have proved extremely challenging to develop. This review describes the range of cough monitoring systems developed, their performance, applications and future potential.
