Abstract
This paper discusses the daily routines of the juvenile justice system from descriptive reports of direct observations within the court responsible for the juvenile offenders in the city of São Paulo. The research design consists of an exploratory study which aims at demonstrating the plausibility of the explanation regarding the juvenile justice daily dynamics . Thus, direct observations of both the judicial hearings and the informal hearings at the State’s Attorney office were done -- observations consisted of weekly visits to the juvenile courtroom for four months in 2014. Not only does the paper conclude with the centrality of the State’s Attorney office, but it also concludes that the informal hearings happen ceremonially, in order to keep the myth of an individualized justice, but with no actual effects over the decisions themselves, since they are actually taken beforehand.
