Abstract
This article revisits the authorship of the anonymous Koca Sekbanbaşı Risale, one of the best-known political treatises of the eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Ottoman Empire. The authors summarise the debate over its authorship from origins to the present. They then present new data that strengthens the claim of the historiographer royal, Ahmed Vasif Efendi (d. 1806).
