Abstract
The set of stochastic differential equations which describe fluctuations in linear irreversible thermodynamics in terms of path integrals was studied. The stochastic terms which are added to the linearized macroscopic equations were found to have a singular correlation matrix. A path-integral representation which is valid independent of the correlation matrix was constructed. The approach was found to emphasize the role of the response and correlation functions as basic elements of the theory.
