Abstract
Near-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) measurements for BaPb 1-xBixO3 have been made across the entire solid-solution range at the Bi LIII, and Pb LIII, absorption edges. By the use of appropriate standards, we infer that whereas the Pb valency in the material remains 'PbIV-like', the Bi valency increases as lead is doped into BaBiO3.
