Pedagogical Methodology to Design a Biomanufacturing Laboratory for Large Groups of Engineering Students

Research output: Chapter in Book/Conference proceeding › Conference contribution › peer-review

    Abstract

This paper proposes a methodology to design teaching activities based on good principles for educational practice by McMahon and and varying learning styles. It hypothesises that this will lead to ‘deeper’ student learning and improved student satisfaction. The methodology is then presented in a case study to design a biomanufacturing unit laboratory which teaches 148 postgraduate and forth year MEng students. Measures of the effectiveness of ‘deep’ learning is measured by quantifying effective learning outcomes through exam results and student engagement. It also meausres student satisfaction using an online questionnaire similar to questions asked in the UK National Student Survey (NSS).
