Abstract

The triple-cage triamantane, C18H24, in addn. to the previously-reported transition to a plastic pre-melting phase at 150°, undergoes a gradual transition from an ordered phase at 0° to a disordered phase at 30° involving an increasing proportion of mols. reorienting about one axis. The mechanism for this transition was established and a disorder parameter defined and estd. at three temps. [on SciFinder(R)]
