Abstract
Government efforts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the UK Police Service continue to be made against a backdrop of rising crime and worsening clear-up rates. As part of a recent initiative within a major metropolitan force, a simulation package has been developed to assist deployment of operational staff. The paper outlines the development of the package (based on the SMALLTALK object-oriented programming system) and provides an overview of the underlying model.
