Abstract
Basal encephalocoeles are rare congenital abnormalities of the skull base. The authors describe a rare case of spontaneous CSF leak and meningitis secondary to an intra-sphenoidal encephalocoele. Initial endoscopic transsphenoidal repair was unsuccessful, necessitating a combined subtemporal and transsphenoidal approach to close the defect. © 2008 Springer-Verlag.
