Abstract

This study confirms theoretically predicted electronic transitions to U 6d xy (6dδ) orbital and measures relative energies of U 5fδ, 5fϕ, 5fπ, and 5fσ orbitals of oriented uranyl (UVIO22+) in the same spectrum with remarkable energy resolution. The demonstrated experimental approach provides means for increased precision in prediction of actinide reactivity important, for example, for developing diagnostics in medical applications.
