Abstract
The polarization reversal current of a ferroelectric liquid crystal cell with horizontal chevron smectic layer structure may exhibit a double peak response under certain conditions, similar to an antiferroelectric liquid crystal. The current response was investigated as a function of temperature, electric field amplitude and frequency. An explanation of the resulting behaviour, based on the director and smectic layer configuration of the horizontal chevron smectic layer structure is given.
