Abstract

Various studies have confirmed that HLA-DRB1*03 is a risk factor for idiopathic inflammatory myositis, but have failed to elucidate any significant genetic differences between PM and DM. Through the UK Myositis Immunogenetic Collaboration, we have collected DNA phenotype data on 150 cases.AIMS: To determine whether HLA-DRB1 genotype can discriminate between PM and DM in a UK white caucasoid population.METHODS: 150 adult UK white patients; PM, n=74 (25 males, 56.8 ± 13.9 years), DM, n=76 (25 males, 50.7 ± 12.3 years) with definite disease, according to the Tanimoto criteria (J Rheumatol 1995, 22:668-674), were compared with an ethnically matched control group (n=537).
