    Abstract

    NOVELTY - A sample of gaseous or volatile substance from the vaginal region of the patient is obtained and detected with a gas sensor. The detected contents are correlated with the occurrence of the condition.DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM relates to a gas sensing system which includes a sampler (10) for obtaining the sample which is subsequently introduced into a gas sensor (14).USE - For detecting cervical cancer, ovarian or uterine cancer, a viral infection, e.g. with human papilloma virus, cytomegalovirus, a STD, or HIV, a condition associated with oestrus, e.g. pregnancy testing or fertility monitoring, or a yeast infection, e.g. with chlamydia.ADVANTAGE - The test is accurate and less intrusive than conventionally used methods.
