Abstract
Preventative mastectomy is a procedure that is now becoming available for women at high risk of developing breast cancer. Our study demonstrates that over 50% of women would opt for preventative mastectomy if shown to be carriers of a mutation in one of the breast cancer predisposing genes. We present a protocol for women considering this surgery and results from initial follow-up of the cohort.
