Abstract

This evaluation assessed the impact of small group work interventions intended to develop primary school childrens social and emotional skills, part of the Primary Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) programme. The research also aimed to gather information on and learning from successful examples of SEAL group work implementation. The evaluation included qualitative interviews with SEAL leads in 12 English LAs. A quantitative analysis of the impact of SEAL group work on 624 pupils in 27 primary schools using psychological and psycho-social instruments e.g. Emotional Literacy Assessment Instrument and Child Role Play Measure was undertaken together with case studies of six nominated lead practice schools.
