Abstract

This chapter is concerned with the ways in which people solve problems in organisations. It is organised around a case example that is itself based on a realistic organisational challenge. In its original format, the exercise was a challenge set for an MBA team by Fran Cotton, CEO of Cotton Traders. In its current format, the original material has been simplified into a short case study, together with details of the problem-solving approach (MPIA) that the MBA team applied to the case and which helped in the generation of new ideas and actions for the client.
